Apparel sizing and fit considerations for international brands
Why size labels are not universal, how to brief women’s and men’s fits, and how to use metric and imperial measurements in a tech pack.

A size letter is not a measurement
S, M, and L do not mean the same chest or hip circumference across brands or countries. If you sell in the United States, the United Kingdom, and Europe, you need a measurement chart, not only a size name.
The Urban Stitch Wear size guide is general industry orientation. It is not a substitute for a graded spec on your style.
Fit is gendered when the pattern is gendered
A fitted women’s tee, a unisex blank, and a men’s tracksuit jacket are different patterns. Describe the intended wearer. If you want one unisex block, accept the fit compromises that come with it.
Use both units when your team is international
Put measurements in centimetres and, if your buyers use them, inches. Pick one unit as the source of truth to avoid rounding disputes. Call out the points of measure: chest, body length, sleeve, waist, inseam.
